Historik

P? den tiden kallades den "Boston Air Port" vid Jeffries Point.[10] De f?rsta planerade kommersiella passagerarflygen som startade p? det nya flygf?ltet var p? Colonial Air Transport mellan Boston och New York City, med start 1927.[11] Den 1 januari 1936 blev flygplatsens v?derstation den officiella punkten f?r Bostons v?derobservationer f?r National Weather Service.[12]
Under 1940- och 1950-talen byggde flygplatsen ut terminalerna och lade till terminalerna B och C 1949, som fortfarande ?r i bruk idag. ?r 1943 d?pte delstaten Massachusetts om flygplatsen efter generalmajor Edward Lawrence Logan, en spansk-amerikansk krigsofficer fr?n South Boston, en staty av honom, utf?rd av skulpt?ren Joseph Coletti, avt?cktes och invigdes den 20 maj 1956.[11][13][14] Flygplatsen d?ptes om till General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport genom ett beslut av delstatens lagstiftande f?rsamling den 29 april 1954, vilket speglade den v?xande internationella marknaden.[15]
Jumbojeteran b?rjade i Logan sommaren 1970, n?r Pan Am startade daglig Boeing 747-trafik till London Heathrow. Fram till 2020 var Boeing 747-400 planerad f?r flyg till Boston av British Airways.[16] Lufthansa hade Boeing 747, inklusive den senaste modellen Boeing 747-8, p? sina dagliga direktflyg till Frankfurt.[17]
Landningsbana 14/32, Logans f?rsta st?rre bantillskott p? mer ?n fyrtio ?r, ?ppnade den 23 november 2006. Den f?reslogs 1973, men f?rsenades i domstolarna.[18] Enligt Massports protokoll var det f?rsta flygplanet att anv?nda den nya landningsbanan ett Continental Express ERJ-145 regionaljet som landade p? bana 32, p? morgonen den 2 december 2006.
JetBlue b?rjade flyga till Logan 2004 och blev en stor operat?r p? flygplatsen 2008 och dess st?rsta flygbolag 2011, med flyg till st?der i hela Nordamerika och Karibien.[19] Flygbolaget v?xte till att trafikera n?stan alla gater i terminal C och ?r fortfarande Logans st?rsta flygbolag ?r 2023.[19]
